Christmas festivities

This has been a fun season thus far, because Spencer has been very excited about Christmas. He loves Christmas trees, so this year we got him his own tree for the basement; it's just his size:) Last year he got a Handy Manny ornament, and this year he picked out Mater and Lightning McQueen ornaments. He is yet to keep the cars ornaments on the tree though. He had a blast decorating it, and his favorite part of the tree (and any tree for that matter) is the "tree star." He loves "The Land Before Time" and basically any star is a tree star.

We didn't have any ornaments, so when we bought the tree we had to get the tree stand, and ornaments too....good thing it's a Spencer-size tree:)

This is the finished product...the extent of the downstairs decorations. A few years ago, after Christmas, Hallmark had their left over Christmas stuff on sale for a dollar. That includes everything you see in the window seal, except the snow globes.

First snowfall of the season, had to go and play. The school in front of our house has a few hills built into the landscape...perfect 2 and 3 year old sledding size.

Tonsillectomy

As stated in a previous post, Spencer had to get his tonsils, and adenoids, out on November 30. They were constricting his eating, and his breathing (while he was sleeping). He did really good before the surgery. He doesn't like doctors at all, but he never throws fits. He just quietly asks to go home every time we are at a doctor's office. Before the surgery he was okay, he knew that something was up, but he did like the tigers that were on his hospital gown:) Luckily, for my sake, when they came an got him for the surgery, he nicely went with them and didn't look back. I was waiting for him to turn around and look at me as they were walking away...but he didn't. I probably would have lost it if he did. In the recovery room, he was really disoriented and upset. As I was holding him, he knew that my lap was where he wanted to be, but couldn't sit still. He did a lot of thrashing, and crying. And the recovery room nurse was unbelievable annoying. The second she walked away he would calm down, but when she would come back he would get worked up....I don't blame him. So she wasn't helping the whole situation with trying to get him to stop crying. It took a long time to calm him down. Even when we went to his room, it took all morning to completely get him to sleep. He would sleep, then every few minutes wake up crying.

He had to keep an IV in his foot, for fluids. Spencer hated it. In the recovery room we had a heck of a time keeping him from pulling it out.

Yum...ice chips. For those of you who know Spencer, Ice is his favorite snack:) We couldn't get him to eat or drink anything until later that evening. If patients are under 3, they like to keep them overnight to monitor them. Which made me feel better.

We gave him a magna doodle to help entertain him. He loves magna doodles. Plus this was a cars themed one...can't get much better than that! It came with a lightning McQueen that you could drive on it.

The longer we were there, the puffier he became. This was not too long before we went home.

We love the pain medication:) Spencer was so happy to get the IV out, that he was dancing around the room before we left. And since we have been home, hes done nothing but running and jumping. He needs to take it easy for a few days, so not to rip open the back of his throat. The pain medication calms him down:) Whenever anyone is sick we always make a bed in the family room for them. He loves being able to chill, but be in the same room. His voice isn't as scratchy as I thought, but he sounds different. It's more Kermit the frog-ish:)

Hopefully this will help the eating/sleeping situation. And I'm glad that's over.

Katie's Birthday

On November 20th, Katie turned 17!! We always have tons of fun around our house on Birthdays! Katie asked for a cheesecake this year....usually it's candles sticking out of a pile of doughnuts:)

Every year we take the birthday girl out for a 3 a.m. breakfast at IHOP...and yes, you have to have the matching pajamas:)

Basically, birthdays are one big day of eating. Along with IHOP in the morning we went to Chili's for dinner. Which was then followed by a movie...Twilight to be exact.
